Pilot Scholarships– A pilot scholarship is probably going to be the easiest route to take when it comes to applying. Most scholarships have basic criteria that each applicant must meet before they can even apply for said scholarship. If the applicant meets the requirements, then the next step is to find out what else is needed in order to apply. Most scholarships have the applicants write a long essay that includes information about themselves, what they plan on doing with the funds if they are awarded the scholarship, what the applicant’s career path is, along with numerous other various questions and whatever documentation is needed to apply for the pilot scholarship.
Pilot Grants– A pilot grant is very similar to that of a pilot scholarship. Sometimes and in order to apply for a grant, the specifications on how the grant application is prepared and written are to complicated and require special writing services. If so, you may need to hire a professional grant writer to complete the pilot grant application for you so your application does not get denied.
Pilot Loans, Pilot Finance, and Pilot Financial Aid- Their are numerous other methods for financing your flight training, such as: The aviation school may provide in house payment plans( still apply for grants and scholarships to help with costs and expenses), you could seek out a traditional financial institution for a pilot loan or personal loan, apply for a collateral based loan, research other financial aid programs for education, apply for a pilot loan with secondary finance companies(be careful), etc.
What is nice about most of the scholarship and grant programs is that some of them will allow you to spend your funding on related education expenses or related living expenses while receiving your education and pilot training. Some examples of these secondary expenses that your grant or scholarship could be used for are as follows- transportation or vehicle, living expenses, laptop or computer for school, school supplies, school clothes and uniforms, any pilot equipment needed that is not included in your tuition, additional flight time, any other additional courses and exams, FAA check rides and examiners, medical certificates, U.S. Visa costs, travel costs, and TSA clearance costs (international students), etc.
Utilizing pilot grants and pilot scholarships should also be used in combination with in house financing, pilot loans, secondary loans, or whatever works for your particular financial situation. Just understand that there are numerous ways to finance pilot training and you should not get scared when you see how much it costs to become a properly trained and certified pilot, commercial pilot, or ATP.
